In many cultures, the fox is associated with wealth gained through creative problem solving and as an omen of successful farming. Among the Dogon of Mali, a powerful god called Pale Fox first brought the gift of grain to the people and saw that it was distributed throughout the land. Inari, a Japanese god of food and rice worshiped to this day, sometimes takes on the form of a fox to visit mortals. There are over forty thousand shrines dedicated to this powerful deity. These shrines, often guarded by majestic red Torii gates, contain statues that depict the god flanked by two foxes
